Re: Roman Reenactment & Combat
I would post something on the Eboracum Festival Facebook Page to see about getting involved https://www.facebook.com/groups/731282616977185/

Re: North East Groups?
There's some Romans about. We've got some members over near you, and we're working on expanding in that direction at the moment. There's also Roma Antica based out of Binchester, I believe. Like all groups, it depends what you're after!

...and yet the upshot is that EH (North) is bringing people over from the continent to do "Hadrian's Wall Live" and not even speaking to UK Romans since they became a Trust.

Re: Roman Reenactment & Combat
There are a few people who do Roman combat out there, or have done at some point. The fundamental problem with doing any kind of meaningful Roman vs. Native combat is the disproportionate advantage in kit that the Roman has over the native. In modern terms this means that the Roman has to fork out £...

Re: most authentic shields on the uk market?
Hi Mathias It depends what you're going to do with the shields. I'd go steel boss every time, as the brass/copper alloy versions tend to cave in if you drop the shield, let alone if someone decide to belt it with a sword. Historically there doesn't seem to have been an issue whether it was made of o...

Re: 'Roman' traders tent
Hi Sally,
We have a couple of spare ones - which will be for sale when I get around to it! We're going to be having a sort out on 22/23 February so I can sort one out for you if you like. The tents are located in North Wales, near Corwen. PM me and we'll sort something out!

Re:
Sorry I may have misunderstood but my reading was it was 40k for the bannockburn event as opposed to the armed forces day. It's a fair cop - that was my mis-reading of the post. I suppose that if 70,000 people are to be drawn to the area for the National Armed Forces Day (subject to whateve...

Re:
40,000...? Did I read that correct? Is that over the weekend or per day? We were involved in this year's National Armed Forces Day in Nottingham - there were 70,000 visitors! It's amazing how much gear the Armed Forces bring along, and as for the visitor numbers - it made EH's Kelmarsh show seem li...

This is a picture of our Centurion in his complete kit (Facebook security settings permitting!) It took a bit longer than the original incarnation the day after his promotion!

Re: LEGIO VIII AUGUSTA MGV: 69-138AD
Loving those boots, great work! Might one ask who did them? I made the boots - Look up Rigorevali on Facebook, or http://www.rigorevali.co.uk There are lots of very cool Roman shoes which I could make, but there is a lack of high status reenactors to wear them. I will probably just make some of the...

Re: rain and events last weekend 4 and 5th aug
We were at Lincoln Castle "Festival of History" mulitperiod. We had afternoon rain both days, including thunder, but it only really affected the Saturday afternoon performances, and we got away on Sunday with dry(ish) tents in the end.

After 22 years as a Roman reenactor, our Optio has finally been promoted to Centurion by popular acclaim! Given the tendancy for everyone to want to be somebody 'important', is this a record?

As a Roman, I have always found this forum to be one of the best run and most open minded. It's not perfect, but that's the nature of Internet forums. I have met lots of interesting people here from different periods and got bookings for shows I would otherwise never have heard of. It's all too easy...

Re: 1 C Romans Interested?
I'm disappointed to hear that all Roman Groups are apparently obsessed with petty politics and feuding with each other, and pleased to hear that this is unheard of in medieval period groups! There will be about 5 groups forming a full century at kelmarsh this year, so that's bound to result in pet l...
