Re: French Landing at Kilcummin/Killala 1798
It was loads of fun with plenty of craic. There was a lad next to me in the pike line, had a bit of drink, giving it "i'm gonna stab an englishman by the end of the day" in a forcefull manner. I turned to him, and in my Yorkshire accent said "I hope thats not me". That caught him off guard :D Theres...

Re: Looking for guidance Late 18C male worker
Thanks Bucket. I've not looked at it fully but it seems it describes gentlemans clothing. Do you know if a simple worker would be the same style but with less ornate material or facings, if any?

I won't be at mortimers, but would like to see the images. I am planning on attending one if the fairs though.

French Landing at Kilcummin/Killala 1798
Hi all, Whilst on my hols in Ireland, I took part in the locally organised re-enactment of the French landing at Kilcummin and Killala in 1798. It was part of the Killala's heritage weekend and wider organised events that commemorated General Humberts, ultimately unsuccessful, invasion of Ireland an...

Looking for guidance Late 18C male worker
Hi all, I'm looking for guidance as to where I can get information regarding kit, sewing patterns and such like for a rural farmer in the late 18th century (I do WOTR so haven't a clue). Whilst on my hols in Ireland, I took part in the locally organised re-enactment of the French landing at Kilcummi...

Re: how low are braies ?
A rough generalisation would be split hose reaching thigh height late 14C rising to waist height early 15C. Then crossing over to joined hose earlyish 15C and split hose becoming less common as the century progresses with only those in very menial and poor jobs continuing to wear split hose. What pe...

Re: A bit of a walk and camp out
Have you any photos of that Steve, especially the tumpline? I did a fair bit of trawling the 15thC images I could find and nearly all show pilgrim scrip bags, pack baskets, split saddle type bags or strapped bundles; anyone know of possible other ways of acceptable carrying? If there are clearer ima...

Why don't you look at The Company of St George website and their PDF magizines called Dragons. One of the issues has an article on jacks. But just so your aware, the images will be mostly Europeon as they portry a Burgundian gunners.

Re: Crossbow bolts
My mate has done this for his target arrows. Have a slightly angled grove so that your shaft when placed has one end exposed above the face for planing and keep rotating each time you plane to keep the sides even. Not explained this very well but hope the diagram helps.
