Re: White Moth Heraldic device

Ghost & Craig, That's absolutely fantastic, I thought it would be possible to ID it a bit better than we currently have. Any idea if he had any land in Cheshire? Ghost, do you have a picture of the white butterfly used in the device? Is it similar to what I've got on my harness pendant? Thank you ve...

White Moth Heraldic device

http://www.finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/176621 This is possibly a long shot, but does anyone have any suggestions which family used a white moth as their heraldic device? For once, we've got a harness pendant where the heraldry is surviving in good condition, but no idea which family it...

Re: King's Head Buckles

Yup, the London example is the #568 that the late Geoff Egan published in Dress Accessories. He has mentioned another one from a previous excavation in London but no images or description of that one. I'll try and track it down next time I'm at LAARC. The buckles variants are more self explanatory i...

King's Head Buckles

http://finds.org.uk/blogs/westmidlands/2011/01/06/kings-head-strap-clasps-or-buckles/ I've started doing some research into this type of 14th Century Strap fitting. They appear to be a fairly rare excavated find, but are relatively common in the metal detected material. I've gone through the materia...

Look! A collection of photos without any of Mr Harley's classic poses in!

In fact, I think he failed to spot said photographer.

If anyone wants copies of the prints, email Guy, the photographer. His email is on the bottom of the page.

If you're after using something other than leather as a lacing cord, what about using lucet cord....nice and strong and will actually hold a knot for a significant length of time (personal experience - kept finding that a knot using leather cord kept coming undone but not in the same way with lucet ...

Oh, and anyone who knows Allan Harley, it's his birthday at Blore Heath, birthday cards are not obligatory.... :)
