Re: Medieval Longbow Draw Weights
None of its evidence though is it So what's your view on medieval bow weights, Annie? As a bow maker and seller you must have an opinion on this topic. My view is that they had longbows of all kinds of draw weights not just heavys, the bows Jim quoted are a primary source of evidence, the Mary Rose...

Re: Medieval Longbow Draw Weights
If we take the MR bows then, without evidence to the contrary, we have to assume these were standard-issue military bows. One could argue that they were of higher quality than other bows (since this was Henry's flagship) but there is nothing to suggest they were somehow more powerful than any other...

Re: Arrow baskets
Longbows with a 150lb plus draw weight were found on the Mary Rose but that does not mean that 150lb was a typical draw weight for a WoTR longbowman (as I've heard more than one WoTR re-enactor tell the public). In the face of an contrary evidence why would you NOT believe 150lb to be a typical dra...

Re: Recurve Bows
First of all, the original question was "were there recurve bows around in the 9th/10th century in Western Europe?". Now, "recurve bow" simply describes a shape, without describing materials. We need to distinguish between wooden recurve bows and composite bows (what most replies relate to). Wooden ...

Re: How are you finding trade ?
So this has gone from, how are you finding trade generally, to ILHF was very quiet and some traders were down whatever %, and we are all doomed. Am I missing something here, it was 1 show, yes there are a FEW teething problems at a new venue, but nothing insurmountable, people don't like change, a f...
