Clothing supplier help - 1860s
Hello all,
I'm looking for advice on clothing traders I could approach for an outfit appropriate for a farmer's wife in 1860's American Frontier.
Thank you.

SOLD: Standard Past Tents Pavillion
SOLD: Standard Past Tents Pavillion. This is a standard size (12' high, 14.5' diameter base), bleached canvas pavillion tent made once upon a time by Past Tents. I've been the owner for 10 years. It is in a good condition, with mud marks as you might expect from 10 years of use in the field. It has...

Hello! I was wondering if you would consider making a Romano-British shield such as the one shown here:

Re: What do MOPs mean when they ask if something is real?
Agreed with the above. Quite often the "is it a real xxxx" is actually not the question MOP want to ask but they don't really have it in their mind the correct question to ask as they might be embarrassed or a little worried about approaching someone dressed in "strange" clothing. I actually prefer ...

Public Liability Insurance
Hello all, Just some advice. In terms of re-enactment, my group has their own public liability insurance covered by the Federation of the Wars of the Roses, or their own group insurance. However, I have until recently been a member of a HEMA sword group but my membership has run out. This means that...

If no-one on here has one, I could possibly look to burn one onto wood for you via pyrography - which one are you looking for?

Re: What got you interested?
I had been practicing HEMA for about 5 years, when a colleague asked me what I knew of the 15th century - it's history and people. I had to admit that I knew about as much as watching Monty Python and the Hold Grail... So I went along to the Towton Battlefield Society annual remembrance event in 200...

Re: Roman Reenactment & Combat
Hello Dan, You might want to check out the group called The Vicus. I've joined this year and they do displays which include combat between Romans and native Britons. It's not full-on 'smash-the-crap-out-of-each-other', but it's good fun to find out what the different shields and weaponry can do, and...

Advice needed: H&S and Displaying wool
Hello all, I've recently joined a group who do Romano-British re-enactment, and as a starter display, I am showing a display of varieties of wool and how to spin with a drop spindle. I usually let people touch the wools to see the difference between fine and course fleece. It's all been bought from ...

Thanks for the references, though the first one looks like some kind of trade supplier so I don't think I could buy directly from them? There's also no prices stated on the website.

Help with findinf UK pure silk taffeta suppliers
Hi guys, I'm trying to obtain 6 meters of pure 100% silk taffeta in a dark red / burgundy / wine colour. It is becoming very hard to do this as my current trusted suppliers have downsized as it is only cost effective for them to supply pure silk taffeta in bridal colours, i.e. white/cream/etc. I nee...

Gown Hem Hook - 1500s
I have had an interesting but brief discussion with members of my LARP group about hooks which hold up the hem of a dress. Being involved with Wars of the Roses period costume, I was under the impression that the gown hem was usually tucked into the belt, front or back, or looped over the inner unde...

The Colour of Treason by Su Harrison
Few books have captured my imagination over the last couple of years as the one I’m reviewing now. But perhaps I’m biased? I find the short period of history known as the ‘Wars of the Roses’ deeply complex and interesting, both for the main players in the conflicts as well as those living their ever...

Re: Leeds armouries question
I was teaching at the Armouries last weekend, there wasn't a single mention of it anywhere. When I muttered about it to some reenactor chums of venerable years who have their ears to ground on most matters they hadn't heard of it at all. It doesn't bode well. Phil, Stuart Ivinson told our group at ...
