Re: How to use lances

Is this a joust/war Lance or a lighter pricking lance? and would it be couched across or in line with the horse? With the pricker and in line I have in the past always used the strike and recover on the occasion were the lance is stuck fast I have had let go the lance. With the joust/war lance acros...

Re: Waxed linen gaiters

Waxed linen gaiters hmmm never heard of these being used in the 15th century,?! Although I have heard seen and read of single leg hose being worn over hose for warmth and when not in needed rolled down to the knee and held up by garters make of inkle braid or leather. They do work well at keeping th...

Also be sure to cut on on an angle about 10~20 degres is best but just and angle will do, and the lowest edge should be to the out side of the stool.

Re: Coppicing Hazel

The best time to coppice is well after the autumn leaf fall when the sap has gone down, and certainly well before the sap rises in the spring. so JAN -FEB

Clear the leaf litter from the base of the stool and cut from the the most accessable shoots in to the center at about 2~3 inch up from the stool

Re: Wooden Buckler From Hull

so if its a buckler why have a big hole in the middle? The handle looks tall enough to get your hand though, so no need for for it, then go and cover it with a bit of leather? a weak spot or what? I would have thought a metal boss with a wooden rim like regia sheilds would be a better just a thought?

She was not the patron saint of gunners until the 16th century, up until that time gunners would have the patronage Of saint Sebastian
He was one of the patron saints of soldiers and archers in particular, so gunner just stretched his remit to include all types of missiles
