Academy of European Medieval Martial Arts The goal of this organization is to resurrect European medieval martial arts to the same level as today’s Oriental martial arts schools and academies, and to establish that which was lost of the medieval ages art of combat into an established 21st century martial art alternative. The objective is to not only achieve realism in the discipline of armoured combat, but also the philosophy, principles and ritual that surrounds this form of martial art skill.

EventPlan Limited Okay, it's a fair cop, it's my business site! But I think you/ other visitors will find it a useful resource.

EventPlan offers planning, consultancy and training services to event organisers and for TV/film productions, utilising whenever possible top re-enactment groups. It is, and always has been, my conviction that good re-enactors and living history groups offer a unique service to heritage sites, other venues and to film, so EventPlan carries on the work I caried out when Head of Special Events for English Heritage (although hopefully this time without unimaginative men in grey suits interfering). We believe in working with re-enactors (with the emphasis on the with) to mutual benefit.

Anyway, do have a peek, and if you are willing to add a link, that would be great!

Thanks,

Howard Giles.

Foeum Fabelli This is a new forum, created to become a place for people of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds with an interest in History/Naval History of the 18th/19th century.

It combines character-play, reenactment and history exchange, has a language learning category in development and a section about literature. The original idea rose out of the Aubrey/Maturin Novels by Patrick O'Brian, and we kept a big focus on the topic still, but we wish it to become a composition of anything related to the periode, from pattern or recipe exchange to maybe even creating a live roleplay group.

Medieval Scotland This is a collection of articles and resources aimed at anyone interested in Scotland between A.D. 500 and 1603, from about when the King of Dál Riata moved from Ireland to Argyll to when King James VI of Scotland inherited the English throne. Because medieval Scotland was not isolated from its surroundings in either space or time, there are also some articles concerning related regions and the focus time span is somewhat flexible.

Some of the articles discuss not only what was done in Scotland in the Middle Ages but also how modern people might re-create aspects of medieval Scottish culture. While this may be of direct interest mainly to novelists and historical re-creators (such as those involved with battle re-enactment societies, renaissance fairs, or the SCA), this way of looking at things can also help clarify and illustrate actual medieval practice for anyone.

Swansea & Mumbles Railway - the World's First Service by Rail ! The Swansea and Mumbles Railway, Wales, is officially recognised as the world's first scheduled passenger service by rail. On March 25 1807, a simple horse drawn carriage pulled the first of its fare-paying passengers around the sandy crescent of Swansea Bay. By the time of its final demise in January 1960, the U.K.'s largest electric trams had taken their own turn to span an intriguing 153 years as the world's longest running, and indeed the most eccentric, rail service in history.
