Unto The Breach!

Welcome to Unto the Breach! Founded at the beginning of 2005, we are dedicated to re-enacting famous British historical events in an informal, fun and highly entertaining way, encouraging participation and raising money for charitable causes at the same time.

OK, so what do we do?

There are many re-enactments groups around the country but none like us. Apart from giving all proceeds to charity, our events are one-off re-enactments of some of the most dramatic and famous episodes in British history, and all are performed on the original sites. We adhere reasonably closely to the original historical story but the details are much more fanciful and we also don’t insist on formal props or costumes. For example, if a sword or gun is required, a stick might do instead! The emphasis is on imagination, enthusiasm and enjoying ourselves.

We also differ from other re-enactment groups as none of our events are public displays. Due to the large variety of events we plan to cover, some re-enactments may have to be restrictive due to public access to the site. We ask that only sponsors can attend each event and those who do attend will have to take part as well. Any curious passers-by will also be asked to take part and sponsor us as well. No, there’s no sitting on the sidelines! We have no restrictions on age, fitness or anything else, and we aim to encourage as many people as possible to join in the fun! This eliminates any self-consciousness and therefore adds to the informality and enjoyment for everyone. And any sponsor who gives us at least £3 receives a photographic record of our re-enactment and also a brief history of the actual historical event. Unto The Breach is not only fun and raises money for charity, it is also educational!

Our first trial event took place on 5th February 2005 and was a re-enactment of the Battle of Chalgrove Field, a Civil War skirmish in Oxfordshire. To see our photographic record of this, please see below. Our second re-enactment took place on 15th May 2005 at Runnymede on the banks of the river Thames near Windsor, with the signing of the Magna Carta by King John, where a fabulous time was had by all!

How you can join in the fun

Unto The Breach is based in High Wycombe, Bucks, and, donates all sponsorship money from each event to a charity local to the event. We hope to create a nationwide network of volunteers to help re-enact our events in all corners of Britain. On the educational side, we also encourage the involvement of schools and other similar groups. For a list of possible events that we may cover, please see below. As you can see, the possibilities for fun are endless!

If you would like to join in or just want more details, please contact us. We are looking for active members willing to help with the organization of our events. So, anyone with a great sense of humour and imagination and who wants to get involved in worthy causes and recreating a bit of ‘alternative’ history, Unto The Breach needs you!!
