For our first set of interesting facts we
will start with Georgian and finish in Regency.
Some people say that Georgian and Regency are the same. The
reason being that in 1811 the King then George III was declared
insane. It was therefore decided that his son, the Prince of Wales
(Later to be George IV), would act on his behalf and would be known as
the Prince Regent. The Prince continued the duties until his
father died in 1820.
Even though a Regency was not recognized
we can go back to a earlier
period 1788. King George III was still ill, so the government
tended to deal with the Prince, who became an important person to
them. Unfortunately the Princes father recovered so a regency was
not created.
The Prince Regent became George IV and ruled from 1820-1830.
The period from 1788 until 1830 is sometimes known as the
"extended Regency".
