New National Living History Fayre, Nov 2012 etc

Postby david smith » Tue Feb 21, 2012 4:44 pm

Have just reached provisional* agreement with Princethorpe College Warwickshire to stage Re-enactor's Markets on the same weekends as TORM so that folk get benefit of TWO markets within 3 miles of each other. Complete with CAMPING and BEER TENT and affordable stands. Inside or outside options, pitches £50 or £10 a sq. metre inside. Camping free for traders, just £5 per head per night for visitors.

PM or E-mail for details.

And, before anyone wants to start re-enacting the market wars of 2003, there are lots of traders out there who do not stand at either of the existing markets. I found 170 UK-based, goodness how many on the other side of the channel, and with free camping it becomes a very affordable market to come and stand at.

Best wishes
David

*final agreement is dependent upon TORM's dates and the College's other commitments.

I don't understand the reluctance of many organisers to have markets on the same weekend - I appreciate it introduces competition, but I am virtually certain to make the journey if I can visit several markets in one day

If they are separated I will have to choose

Best of luck with this

We are looking forward to welcoming a lot of old friends and having a party! That's something we could never really do at the old NLHF...

I have been discussing the possibilities of a Longbow Archery Competition with an expert, and whilst I can't as yet make any announcement on that I can tell you what the first prize is going to be. In fact, I can (sort of) show you! It will be (suitably mounted and framed) the very first signed limited edition high quality print of this amazing drawing by Matthew Ryan, number one of all prints of this drawing, bound to become a collectors' item, already generating lots of interest over on Facebook.
Best wishes
David

Here's a photo of the drawing

Hi Dave

Hopefully I'll be able to make this event, looking forward to it, although maybe not the camping aspect of it!

It may not be immediately possible, depends on a few things, but I am seriously considering having NO ADMISSION CHARGE for the NLHF.

What do you think?

With NO ADMISSION fee you will certainly attract more visitors (I for one) and that may force TORM to lower their admission fee as well.......Happy days!!!! :D

Honestly NO....but free admission to your fayre will certainly get everyone who is visiting TORM to drive the 10 minute drive over to your living history fayre to check out the competition. Good luck with the enterprise and hope the event can be free admission

Decision made, definitely FREE ADMISSION, not just for November 2012 but for all time. The NLHF will be free entry.

News following soon about the new venue...

9 miles down the M45 / A45 from Ryton.

Enough INDOOR space for every re-enactment trader in the UK (and their tents!) - and they are building yet more!

With a thousand acres, great facilities for camping including brand new Shower block, Bar, Catering, and a Market with FREE ADMISSION, plus the location being extremely central and just a short 9 miles along the A45 / M45 to or from TORM, the National Living History Fayre would make a really good and very affordable Training Camp for group(s) with the added benefit of a great social with loads of other re-enactors....

Yes, it has moved to even bigger premises, without the difficulties posed by sports activities.

We are now at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre, off the A45 next to the M45 near Dunchurch. Postally Willoughby. This is 9 miles (according to Googlemaps) from the Sports Connexion at Ryton-on-Dunsmore. At OGEC we have 1,000 acres with (currently!) 4,520 square metres of Indoor Arena, a ( subsidised ) bar, brand new Shower Block, and a venue used to playing host to huge numbers of visitors and campers.

Personally I'm delighted! Oh, and the owner jousts....
