First Aid for Re-enactors Training Day

Postby Type16 » Tue Sep 20, 2011 8:21 pm

Hi,

I am planning a repeat of the First Aid for Re-enactors course that I ran last May. It is likely that it will be the same weekend -- 3rd weekend in May 2012 -- but this can be moved if needed. The intention is to run it pre re-enactment season.
Location Coalbrookdale. Camping near by.

As per the last course, the intention is to keep the costs low - basically sharing the cost of the venue hire and consumables.

This years course rapidly filled.

**** This Winter ............
In addition, if there are any groups in the Midlands or Northwest who would like to host a course for themselves, and open places up for other group members, please let me know.

The content of the course is totally up to date. Trauma orientated + potential illnesses, Resuscitation + AED defibrilator training. All based within the context of what we re-enactors may have to deal with, rather than generic first aid.

OK, event medics may be on site at big events during the day, but what about at night?
The aim is to enable us to provide a quality assessment of the casualty + appropriate emergency care ---- potentially prior to the arrival of an ambulance or the event medic getting to you on the battlefield.
Plus, developing the skills to cope with potential domestic accidents, or those at our own group's events.

Everyone who successfully completes the training day is provided with certification -- holding the "First Aid for Re-enactors" and also the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification -- all valid for 3 years.

As things develop, I will post again. However, to indicate your interest, please can people PM me or call 01824 790195.

Training provided by myself - Andy Sherriff - HSE Registered First Aid Provider (no. 1424/94)

All the best, Andy.

I have no details to offer.

'twas just a thought as Coalbrookdale is 200-ish miles away, which is a hell of a schlep for us Southern softies......

I'd certainly like to try and come if it were a little further south - I did mine at the Boot Camp and found it really useful!
My mind not only wanders - sometimes it leaves completely!

Hi Everyone.

Just to confirm that the course is definitely happening - at the same location in Coalbrookdale as last year. 7 people have booked at the moment out of an available 12 places.

I will be sending out the paperwork for current 'places' within the next couple of weeks.

Cheers, Andy.

There's people from our group that would be interested in this. gloucestershire or Hereford way would be within reach of us (Cardigan West wales) if camping were available.
Why can't life be simple?

hi
i would be interested in attending this, as it can only be of benefit to everybody.
i do hold a rubber stamp certificate from work, but the course could have been better.
again though, coalbrookdale is a bit of a trek for me, being a southern boy
Gloucestershire would suit me fine though.
lets hope there is enough interest to let this happen.
