Return of the singles banter thread!

Postby Brand » Thu Nov 10, 2011 10:06 pm

Well as it seems to have ceased (possibly due to a 100% success rate?) thought as I'm now single again I'd ressurect it!

So, same format as before- anyone looking for partners/ love/ romance etc. in re-enactment form feel free to add yourself!

let's see then, slightly tarnished rogue available, handfasted once been single now since mid July.

I'm a leturer in animal care and countryside skills and work increasingly as a living history interpreter/ trader/ battlefield pyrotechnician.
I cover most periods but spend most of my time in the Early 18th C.

Otherwise enjoy meals out and deffinately a geek as know too much about various scifi/ fantasy stuff.

I'm single again too. (boo hoo!)

Mostly 15th-century re-enactor, Sheffield-based, with a sideline in modern jive dancing. Male and "mature". (That translates to grey-haired, more than halfway through paying off a mortgage, and beginning to complain about the "old war wounds", but not to someone who won't go down the slide in the kiddies' playground after hours!)

Sadly, I don't think it was a 100% success rate that killed the earlier threads off - particularly since I posted on it again after becoming single. Wow, was it that long ago? (I know how long ago it was actually, because I had this discussion with the ex in question just a couple of weeks ago. We're still friends, you may be happy to hear.)

So - any ideas to make it work again? The first singles thread grew to around 100 pages before being lost in The Great Wipeout, the second always struggled.

OK

Almost housebroken 15th C re-enactor (not exclusively, will play at other periods) rather shop soiled, easily broken, has own hair but not own teef, nearing bus pass entitlement age and living in the South Shropshire area. Seeks lady with very high embarrassment threshold, and the patience of a complete hagiography for companionship and cuddles at events

Mmmm,

oh, my turn. Oh, righto.

Female, much into reenctment, been in it rather too long possibly, but still enthusiastic - how sad is that. I've been a trader, but now getting on a bit and cannot lift all those heavy boxes. Result - house rooms, loft, basement, friends garage and flat all used to store goods and around 75 or so outfits mostly made by me. (See what I mean.)

I've been a strolling minstrel for years - but noone books me anymore as they cannot afford to pay me.

I have caravan, dog and cat and we all go away together, well when I have a van to tow us, that is.

I am a bit of an academic, (like giving talks, practical workshops and generally chatting to anyone who will stop still long enough to listen) and like to have time on my own as well as enjoying company. I can be very silly. I am not interested in the odd weekend fling, thank you.

Oh, the important things. I am in the London area and am enjoying my new bus pass.

Wow- seems single re-enactors are rare these days, unless they are too shy...hmmm.... right maybe we should start a thread for shy single re-enactors :wtf:

Bradford based re-enactor into 15th and 18th centuries but a cool gadget or stylish clothing will have me interested.

And yes, I'm still here.
Well worn and battered, very smelly, Trader. Several (not very careful) previous owners but despite everything, still in full working order. Would ideally like to find a time-travelling memsahib who has enough energy to cope with a multifaceted life style. No experience necessary as training can be provided.

I'm single but currently fit into Lucy the Tudor's "happy spinster" category (see the no **** Sherlock thread). I'm also getting rather long in the tooth and set in my ways, so it would take a very special, or determined, gentleman to upset my present state of equilibrium.

I disagree - nothing sexier than a woman who knows how to handle a weapon! Unfortunately West Yorkshire's what I consider a long-distance relationship.

You're in frigging Sheffield!!!! It's only 30 minutes up the M1! How close do you need someone to be?

Effort is required my dear - you don't currently expend any!!! :-x :-x :-x

I'm fed up with coming home to an empty house and no hugs - offers considered, but my line is drawn at the unemployed and those without transport (or willingness to use public transport) - I am fed up with ferrying people around and being a monetary / rental crutch for a partner - pay your way or no way.

At least you don't live in the heart of darkest Norfolk like I do. I too hate coming back to an empty house with no hugs.... :(

Guilty as charged! Though in my defence I tend to think of West Yorkshire as ‘Leeds and beyond’ and Leeds’ road signage is a nightmare! Till I got satnav I got lost every time I went to or through Leeds. (Actually, that's why I finally got satnav: I got lost twice in one day in Leeds - going to an event for work and coming back!)

You tend to get spoiled living in a big city. It’s nice to be able to go on a date, maybe have wine with the meal or beer in the pub, and then walk or grab a bus or taxi home. (As well as more environmentally friendly!) It tends to cramp the evening if you need to consider an hour or more’s travel home at the end of the night and be home in time to get a good night’s sleep for work. (And I wouldn’t consider it a real relationship if we only saw each other on Friday and Saturday nights.)

There are also more options for meeting people in big cities – it’s rare that I don’t meet one or two new ladies when I’m jive dancing every week. Not all will be single, or interested in me, or interesting to me – in fact, those who are all three are a tiny minority! But there are enough ladies that I can be happy flirting with even though I know it’s not going anywhere, and sometimes they do turn out to be all three. (Sorry if this is rubbing it in, Pete!)

OK – I’ll take it as a hint and PM you from home, Frances! (At work at the moment – not really a suitable environment for singles’ chat!)

Hmmm.... still single, just busy building my buisness. Not really worrying about it but have shed my 'married man' weight (even 2 years resulted in a stone of flubber!) by getting back to my old gym program so that should help ;-) alas the Island offers limited opportunities to meet interesting people with whom I can have a good conversation but show season starts in 2 weeks...

I'm not available (the ladies let out a communal sigh) (of relief)

However I can recommend the Kentwell re-creations as being a good way of finding partners. That's where I found mine :)

I notice that it is mainly men posting here because the general re-enactment community is mainly male.

However at Kentwell it is the other way round !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The downside - the only do TUDOR, Victorian and WWII re-creations

The one with the largest number of participants is:

http://www.kentwell.co.uk/Re-Creations/ ... veAsATudor

runs for three week in the early Summer and makes a fine holiday !!

In view of Kentwell being full of lovely single women, any fellow who wishes to attend this year needs to send them an A4 sae right away, to apply to be a new participant- you can only join once a year...

Well, I am also a dog minder and frequently have furry house guests but this one's human.
The situation is that I am on my own in a three bedroomed house, and to make the place pay for itself I need to take in a lodger. For the past couple of years I have been a "supported lodgings" provider for the YMCA, which means that I have been providing a room for a homeless youngster -but to date they have all been over 18 and reasonably independant. The last one was a delightful young singer/songwriter called Jade, and she got a place of her own just before Christmas. Very pleased for her of course, but sad to lose an attractive female companion. I used to refer to her as my 18 year old live-in girl friend. Yes she was 18, yes she lived with me, yes she was a girl and yes we were friends. But just friends of course, believe it or not I do have a few ethics!!!!

However, everything has now changed. The latest is a 15 year old lad, who at the moment is in care, and Social Services have recruited me as a sort of temporary foster parent. He turns 16 an a few weeks time and will then move from the childrens home where he is at the moment into my place. Where he will almost certainly stay for at least the next two years. I find him a very pleasant and intelligent young lad, he's very interested in the re-enactment scene, and yes he will be coming along with me to most events, so everyone will meet him.Well, that looks like the plan at the moment -but of course as we all know when you are dealing with teenagers absolutely nothing is set in stone, and anything could change in the next week or two.

But as I said, in all reality I've suddenly become a single parent again, with massive responsibilities.
Fortunately I am by now personally used to my life taking extraordinary twists in strange directions, but as to finding a partner who can cope with all this......
