Histeria in September.

Postby houseoffreyja » Mon Mar 21, 2011 2:27 pm

After the very successful St Nicholas’ Fair event at York in November 2010 we are now holding Histeria, a two day history convention. This will be held at the Leeds Garforth Holiday Inn 24th/25th September 2011. This will be for any who have an interest in history, from Living History, Re-enactors and Traders to academics, students or anyone just curious about the past. There will be a traders room, workshops, demonstrations and talks on a range of subject from a range of periods; Bobbin Lace, Early Recorded Sound, Coinage, Bead Making, plus Historian Mark Olly and Guest of Honour, Terry Jones.
Attendance at this event is by pre-booked ticket only. There are limited rooms available at the venue, (we did try to get them all) so early booking is recommended. Mention Histeria when booking in. Saturday evening entertainment will be “Wireless Times”, a Retro Radio Re-creation; this is included in your ticket price. There are other hotels nearby if you miss out on the venue rooms.

Now confirmed, Helen Cox and Peter Algar, present a back-to-back 'fact v. fiction' session, followed by book signings.
Also, we will be holding a raffle to raise money for theatre in Wales that Terry Jones supports.

We have just confirmed Kevin Goodman, the Barber Surgeon, who will be presenting Early and Medieval Surgery techniques with replica tools. Also a pin making demonstration, so you can make your own pin to take home with you.

I will also launching my book on the history of arrow wound treatment from prehistory to the 19th Century at the conference, (but I must add it's not me doing the pin making)

Just to keep you updated guys, we have limited amount of tickets and at the end of the month the price goes up, also there are a limited amout of rooms available, so if you are planning to stay at the Leeds-Garforth, then you may need to think about booking a room - If you are staying please quote Histeria when you contact them.

We have a fabulous list of demonstrations, lectures, have a go and even some traders, so if you are interested please get in touch

We are sorry to announce yet another victim of the economic climate. This young sapling was just not strong enough to cope with these harsh times and has not made it.
We've cancelled to allow the traders/ demonstrators time to find something else.
Please, no flowers, just cash and condolences.
Elaine, Tony and Jayne.

Really sorry to hear this - I know you all put a lot of effort into putting it together & it sounded like it was shaping up to be a really good event - we couldn't make it this time as we had a booking arrive after we'd spoken about it earlier this year, but I was hoping to get reports back from the people that I know who were coming. I'm sure that there is demand for this type of more 'in depth' event and I hope you get more support when you next propose it - thanks for being the ones to be the fore-runners & risk takers - it takes courage and it's easy to be the follower rather than the one who forges the path ahead.
