John Of Gaunt's May Fair

Postby david smith » Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:52 pm

By Order of his most Excellent Grayce John of Gaunt, King of Castile and Leon , Duke of Lancaster, Duc d’Aquitaine, we invite you to his most favoured Castle at Tutbury to partake and share in his May Market. May 21st & 22nd In The Year Of Our Lord 2011

We have space for around 60 traders in traditionally styled medieval tents, and I am trying to persuade the Castle
to let me have the use of their Wedding Marquee, so if anyone would like or prefer a table-top space inside that,
please do let me know so I can twist arms on the basis of “known demand”

Pitches outside are £50, tables inside would be £60 each. Usual Friday setting up from midday – if you want to arrive earlier I am sure we can arrange this if you let us know.

The Castle will be running the local publicity on this one, and are seriously keen for this to be a great success that we can build on it as an annual event. The much-lamented “Templars Fayre” late of Cressing Temple and various other places showed that there is considerable demand from re-enactors for a Medieval Market in the Spring, and Tutbury Castle is not only an attraction in it’s own right to those with an interest in medieval history, but benefits from being conveniently located in the centre of the country making it more accessible to those who live North of Watford Gap.

It is unlikely to be cancelled due to snow and ice :D

Best wishes
David

"The much-lamented “Templars Fayre” late of Cressing Temple"
Hi David,
I'd just like to point out that this Fayre is actually alive and kicking and taking place on the 7th/8th of May.
I'm sure there will be much rejoicing now, to replace the lamenting.

The Templar's Fayre is most definitely not dead!!!!! It is very much alive and is on 7th and 8th May this year. There are over 50 traders already booked in and I'm receiving inquiries regularly. I have worked hard at returning the Templar's Fayre to it's rightful place and time. The Templar's Fayre is not just a market it's an event not to be missed with entertainment and a small beer festival. Cressing Temple Barns provide a superb setting for one of the best markets around. Camping is available if you want to stay overnight. I will update the web site as soon as I can. http://www.templars-fayre.co.uk.

That is excellent news, very glad to hear it. I'm sure there will be much rejoicing indeed - it is by far the very best venue for it.

Best wishes

Pitch Fees reduced in line with the Midlands History Festival ( we are doing our best to help in the face of ludicrous diesel and petrol prices ) to £30

If you've already paid the £50, we'll be arranging the requisite refund at Tutbury.

Still room for more traders, and if any re-enactors fancy coming along to do a bit of LH / training in lovely setting, let me know.

Best wishes

Hi

The forthcoming Tutbury Castle Medieval Market is nearly upon us. Hopefully the forecast for fine weather is accurate!

Setting up is possible from midday Friday, or from 7am on the Saturday.

The Market is open 11am to 5pm both days.

Please check with me on arrival as to where to pitch 

The entrance to the Castle proper is through a narrow stone arch, please take is slowly and give priority to vehicles LEAVING. Also, please do not drive on the grass inside the Castle, keep to the road. We plan to have all tent pitches adjacent to the road, so you shouldn’t need to stray onto the grass 

Don’t forget to tell your Midlands based customers where they can find you!

See you there
Best wishes
