Trading Opportunity at Tutbury Castle, December 4th & 5th

Postby david smith » Wed Nov 03, 2010 6:50 pm

There is an opportunity for medieval traders to show their wares at Tutbury Castle's Medieval Christmas weekend, December 4th & 5th.

You can trade from your tent, or we have the indoor option in their Wedding Marquee.

Tent pitches just £25 for the weekend, indoor tables (some 20 or so still available at the moment) are £60 (reflecting hire cost of premises, heating, electric etc)

"Tutbury Castle for the first time in 2010 is opening its doors for a fabulous medieval Christmas weekend to be enjoyed by the whole family. The Great Hall and King's bedroom will be garlanded in holly, ivy, mistletoe and cascading red ribbons. A feast will be laid out in the Great Hall showing accurate traditional recipes of food enjoyed of the day, and even an opportunity for the grown ups to try a traditional glass of wassail ale (spiced apple juice for the children).

Mummers and musicians will entertain you with a nativity play of the late medieval period. These candlelit two days, we believe, will be amongst the most romantic and beautiful that the castle has ever staged in recent years.

The tea room will be serving mince pies, both modern and traditional and a range of hot treats, including mulled wine." http://www.tutburycastle.com/event_info.php?id=228

Some photos from the Frost Fair now on Facebook showing the Wedding Marquee and the rather nice setting.http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =549471244

E-mail for booking forms, david DOT smith 34 AT ntlworld.com

Setting up from Friday noon, leave by Monday evening. Trollsbottom's Mead Emporium will be on hand.

Best wishes

We are booked in. We'll have to see what the weather is doing 'cos we live in North Derbyshire and at the moment it 's very like a christmas card out of our window. We'd like to know if this event is still on before we set out.

Hi

The event is still on, despite the weather. Lesley is aware of the weather forecast - and you can't even visit Tutbury Castle let alone be curator for all those years without having a keen appreciation of how exposed it is to the elements! So I am expecting the approach road to be gritted etc. - afte all, it is in their direct interests to ensure folk can visit if they are brave enough to ignore the nanny-state warning them not to leave the safety of their duvets.

That said, the weather is likely to have an adverse impact on the visitor numbers, so please do be realistic about this.

However, I was quite surprised on Sunday when I visited Kelmarsh Hall for their Christmas Gift Fair, it was heaving despite the snow, so much so that they had to open an overflow carpark 3/4 of a mile away and put on a mini-bus.

Fingers (in gloves!) crossed! The good news is that the Wedding Marquee is heated. The bad news is that the forge won't be there, as where we were planning to site it would simply be unsafe with snow and ice. You'll have to toddle along to the Iron Dwarf's lair next week or wait until Boot Camp.

Best wishes

Tutbury Castle are running a Medieval banquet on the Saturday evening and it is completely sold out - so fingers crossed that people not only know about this event but are interested and will come along despite the weather.

Hi

Just been advised by Tutbury Castle that they have very reluctantly decided to postpone this event until the weather conditions improve, as they are having trouble getting vehicles up their access lane and are worried about H&S issues.

I'll let you know when they plan to reschedule

Best wishes

I'm waiting to see what Tutbury Castle are able to do in terms of restaging this event, but if they can't do so or traders are unable to make a rescheduled event then of course refunds will be made.

Hi Elaine

Sorry, have not been on this site for some time, so missed your PM's until just now. Refunds will be happening but won't be for some little while, I'm afraid.

Best wishes

David,
If this were a small amount of money, I would just forget about, as most traders do. But it is £120 and I just can't afford to lose that. So, can I have some idea of when I'm to get this money.

Hi David,
I know you are a very busy man, since you seem to be organising other fairs at Tutbury Castle, but I would like to know when I will be getting a refund for the Christmas Fair?

If you click on Dave's profile, you'll see 'Last Visited 04th Feb. Doesn't look like he's visiting here lately, so you'll have to try other means, I think he has various contact details on his website.

Everyone will have been refunded in full by the end of this month, you are next one the list - many apologies for the delay, things have been a tad difficult.
