Songs from the Taverne

Postby Marcus Woodhouse » Mon Oct 19, 2009 12:48 pm

Ballads and drinking songs from the time of Chaucer.
A complelation loosely based upon instruments and dances mentioned in the Canturbury Tales from Gift of Music (Classical Communications) and recorded in 2003.
Lots of French peices as you'd expect given that the English court was still heavily influenced by the fashions of France. The version of Saltarello and the Angelus ad Virginem (which is one of my favourite Christmas carols) are excellent and the vocals on Sumer ic Icumen In are outstanding (with not even a hint of wickerman smoke about it.)
OSTENDE MIHI PECUNIAM!

Got to agree with Marcus: brilliant CD; and one of my favourites
English Warbow: When you absolutely, positively have to kill every muthaf**king Frenchman on the field. Accept no substitutes.
