Dark Age Festival, June 2008 Cressing Temple

Postby david smith » Sun Jul 29, 2007 12:07 pm

June 21st and 22nd 2008 sees the start of a new annual re-enactment event especially for the Dark Ages. At the very lovely Cressing Temple in Essex, near Braintree, see www.cressingtemple.org.uk

I think East Anglia quite appropriate as a location, lots of history from that period

The event will be a Vikings Major, exclusive to the Vikings for 2008. After that we will review things to see if other groups can also be accommodated under the Vikings governance.

Trade space is available inside the Barns and outside, Laurie of Trollsbottom fame will be doing the honours so you'll have good ale at very fair prices, and I'll do my best to get some good value good quality caterers who'll open early and late as well.

Web site will be along shortly, things a bit disrupted here through "death of PC" - hopefully it can be resurrected!

Best wishes
David

All that time to sort out and you STILL couldn't call it something better than 'Dark Age'?

Not only is the term itself outdated, inaccurate and falling out of even the most common of common usage but in the context of a 'Viking' period show it's even more inappropriate (except in the very strictest application of Petrarch's original definition).

2/10 Smiffy.
See me (for a firm kick up the backside).

Dear Mrs Trellis-Whinger,

The title of the event is not designed to attract pedants, it is hoped to appeal to the general public, who after 11 years of Educashion Educashun and Edukation are too illiterate for either long words of many syllabubs, or an appreciation of the fine points of the post-Romano History of this septic isle, formerly Great Britain.

If you would care to come along suitable garbed and prepared, I will allocate you a Lecture Room, and you can round up any interested parties and bore them to death.

Best wishes

Are the Vike doing a show at Fort Nelson again this year? Had a lovely time last year and have several people interested if it's on again?
