Agincourt 1415 - with a difference

I've got a little something in the pipeline for 2008 which if it happens may well be the most 'authentic' thing ever...[since the original]

A believable Henry V, on horse, with haircut and good 1415 harness.
100 + archers- who look like they've besieged Harfleur, suffered dysentry, can shoot well and sleep rough, [like they really did]...
lots of stakes to sharpen and plant...

Firelighting only with flint and steel. Tallow to be the most common material for candles. oil lamps if you can get period oil. Beeswax if your persona can afford it, ABsolutely no modern candles.

A royal pavilion which looks the part - coz its 4 x the size of anything near it and fitted out with the gilded kitchen sink

Very few tents apart from the Royal pavilion. Perhaps one for Sir Thomas Erpingham & one for Sir John Coddrington, but no more.

Servants who actually do...

Household chaplain[s] who can do latin and do credible Pater Noster and last rites.

Heralds who can label, blazon and differentiate.

Clerks who can scriven on parchment & vellum

Craftsmen who can do credible military scenarios-without looking like they needed a transit to carry it all.

The hanging of a thief.....

Arms and armour that is well made, of the correct style, and is accurate [and yes I know the difference ] includes mail- rivetted only please

Animal husbandry - inc the nastier side of food prep on campaign.

Bakers, brewers, cooks, carters [there will be wagons and carts]

Oh and cannon . Nuff said.

It will pay. More details on that later.

There are a number of restrictions here - it will be accurate as far as my black mace will reach. so here goes.

No cross dressing
No tents for the common soldiery. Prize for best shelter made from sticks, straw and a bit of linen canvas.
Kit check 6 months in advance - no compromises
Belts to have good buckles and chapes.
Authentic haircuts
Sharp weaponry only. No ice hockey style blunt bills- thank you
Jacks that will deflect a sharp blade - we can test them you know!
Send a photo of yourself if you wish to be involved, in kit, in front of a plain background. Include what your specialities are, 1415 era.

This is not sexist- its a reconstruction. There will be place for some camp followers but they will have to appear in appropriate fashion...


I hope you will want to be involved in this exciting project. If you fancy meeting these standards then you truly deserve to be labelled authentic. [and slightly mad ]

PS we just completed a 40 mile pilgrimage to Walsingham. It can be done!

While this sounds great, I think you'll have difficulty getting enough people with good enough quality jacks and sharp weapons. How much fighting is actually happening, because if its just for show and no battlefield then you may get more takers, as most people would be jittery about heading to the field against sharps.

My reservations would be more about getting such high quality kit for a one off, and the payment would not cover the costs of so doing - i imagine.

An agincourt jack is not the same as a wotr one, likewise helmet and even footwear - I take it early 15thc footwear is also specified.

I would be happy to make civilian - scribal kit, possibly borrow some earlier pattern shoes, but lack the spare cash to go for any armour or side arms for that matter and I have no intention of owning sharp implements other than the tools of my trade.

And where would this event take place? Agincourt itself? and in October? if so you might be able to count in my hubby - I'd have time to augment his kit to 1415 standards - he has sharp bills and daggers and self yew longbows together with arrows with horn nocks though his fletchings are probably turkey not goose.
The only part of his kit that I think might be a bit on the late side that we wouldn't want to go to the expense of buying new is a helmet.

I certainly don't have early 15thC kit to that standard yet (particulalry sharps).

I think you'll be lucky if it's not just you and three other people.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't try, and wish you the best of luck. If you can pull it off then it will be an event people will talk about for ages.
