Just checked my Stig of the Dump, was printed in 1971, first printed 1963. That's old It's nice to look back through all my dad's books actually, all the old favourites like' One Hundred Million Francs' and 'The Night the Water Came' and 'Tom's Midnight Garden' bring back so many memories.

Most of the books that I've bought in the past years have been non-fiction, bar Tristram Shandy and Gulliver's travels!

thank you lidi, the room was just a unused hallway, so i wanted a place to read, we read loads over here and the shelfs in the living room are full, i just thought why not relaxing with a book is good but when others have tv,computer games or computer on i cant relax and get distracted, so now i have nice place to go,,its not much but i belive every home should have a libary, love nicky.x

Ah yes, I have heard of this, it has a long and distinguished history. The problem is that in England we only ever see a pale imitation of the true form, this is usually practiced by drunks outside Spa, who use it to try and extract money from passersby.

I must admit I was originally mislead by the photo where you do seem to be adopting the first position of Yorkshire Sumo.

I would have all the Frank Herberts cept it be hard to find them second hand and I come very close to having a phobia about buying books first hand.....

I picked many of mine up from charity shops and 2nd hand shops, but the supply is slowly drying up. If you are ever near Carlisle, there is a 2nd hand shop near the castle that has a good selection. Otherwise there is the internet. Many of his books are no longer available brand new, basically anything apart from the Dune series, such as "The green brain", "THe worlds of Frank Herbert", "The Santaroga barrier" etc are not as far as I am aware still in print.

I do most of my book shopping at car boot sales. 6 books fer a fiver. Can't really beat that. But it means I can only go shopping in the winter Cept for when I give my parents a vague idea of what I want...that's how I got into David Eddings
