Axis prisoners of war

Can any one supply us with links or info to research Axis POWs who where held on farms in Mid wales?
We have 2 signatures in buildings at Bryn Mawr farm and would like to identify them, their units etc.

I think personally if it's only names you've got, the best thing would be to contact a German embassy in Britain, they will probably contact the military, or alternatively will give you information on how to do so.

and will try to trace our named German POW there.

I hope your search was succesful. A member of our unit has tried the same thing and has been unsuccesful with the German authorities, who are less than helpful on the matter enless you are searching for a relative (and can provide proof for your claim).

Of interest, at Maes Atro a couple of years ago, we met a chap who was ex Kriegsmarine (German Navy), who had been a POW at the end of the war in Wales. Is there anything else written? Or is it just names?

Will be starting this research over the winter months, only have the names and dates, one carved in a board of the cart shed, the other written on a floor joist in the barn.

There is also a Polish community at Pwllheli. Our allies of course. May have some memories / be able to advise.

It might also be worth checking grave yards. At Bodelwyddan there are German POW iron crosses on graves. May give you a 'vicinity' for a camp.

I'm assuming they are german names, but there were also a onsiderable number of italians in camps over here, and they stayed here even after italy declared war on germany. They were however given a freer rein than the germans and worked unsupervised on the farms

2 signatures found so far at Bryn Mawr, a German signature in the cart shed and an Italian signature on a floor joist in one of the barns, we know that the POWS where left to live up at Bryn Mawr whilst the farmer and his family had moved out of the long house in 1938.
