Some Napoleonic pics from Australia.

Postby Rod Walker » Sun Mar 25, 2007 12:11 pm

Hi all, here are 125 or so pics from today. Taking part where the 15th Light Dragoons, 73rd Regiment of Foot, 42nd Highlanders and the 21EME.

This wasn't a super strict Living History day, rather we all used it as a chance to put the horses under fire and all have some fun together.

Check the pics out.

Some nice pics there Rod.

Well done :D

Many thanks Andy.

It was our first major drill day together so we are still organising stuff and getting used to some of the gear.

I don't have my uniform as yet and had to borrow a troopers dolman. Very much looking forward to ordering and recieving my officers rig.

I know that feeling.

One of the things I would suggest is try wearing the forage bag and canteen higher.

The forage bag helps cushion the canteen, and the shorter it is the less it waves about.

When it sits on the low (especially when it's full) it doesn't half bang on your hip in trot.

I have that pic. Very nice kit. Is he the same chap that appears on pages 76 and 77 of the Europa Militaria Special No 5 "Wellingtons Army Recreated in Colour Photographs"?

I fully intend to put together a kit that will do honour to the 15th.

Just so you know which one I am.

He was a different chap from years back - no idea who he is.

Geoff (our CO) was an NCO in the Kings Troop and has a wealth of knowledge on regency light cavalry, and the 15th in particular.

He also has an unhealthy interest in Sherry......

And I should mention that myself and the troop would love to see any pics you may have of yourselves. :)

Great photos. Love the street fighting one, great photo.

Ok, now this is kinda weird.

On my mothers side we are Elliots. One of our ancestors was George Augustus
Elliot who was created Baron of Gibraltar and Lord Heathfield for his
defence of Gibraltar. This I already knew.

I was just doing some reading and see that this same George Augustus Elliot
was the Colonel for the newly raised 15th Light Dragoons in 1760 when they
won their first battle honour at Emsdorf.

An ancestor of mine was an officer in the 15th Light Dragoons. I had a
shiver run up my spine when I read that.

Doing some more reading and not only was Elliot an officer in the XVLD, he raised the regiment.

I am still in shock.

Obviously it's fate…!

Elliot was a very forward thinking officer - he also came up with the Elliot Light Dragoon pistols and Elliot Light Dragoon Carbine.
