Roman kit

Would anybody please be able to advise me on some websites/traders where I can get some decent roman kit ie clothing/armour/weapons/sheilds, etc....

Ive Got some Gladiator Kit From planettrading Company on ebay Very Cheap and fast delivery . Last Time I was on They had some Legionary Helmats , Lorica , and Gladius 's and I think Scutums , Not expensive but I cant say what Quality the Legionay Kit is .

You have to be very careful.
Alot of traders will sell you complete rubbish.
We've had to replace some members kit that was sold to them by a "reputable" trader ....

The best thing to do is to join an established Roman group, most of them (ourselves included) have the correct equipment that you can buy at reduced rates and give you guidance.

if you want to go it alone, then legio XX in the USA have a fine website on roman kit and some suppliers.

The RAT forum is fantastic for asking questions.

You need to make sure that you know exactly what bit of 'Roman' you want - there is a world of difference between (say) legionary equipment of the invasion period in the south of England and auxiliary kit for a 3rd century frontier garrison unit.

Yeh thanks for pointing that out. I was thinking 1st or 2nd century AD legionaries serving in britain. I don't know a great deal about the period or the re-enactment side of things either (being mainly a Wotr kinda guy), hence why I'm asking you more knowledgeable folk! Cheers!

Basingstoke-well, Legio II Augusta are probably the closest- and the armourer of the Ermine Street Guard also lives near- nice guy, great work that is also well researched (as you'd expect).

They train on a thursday in Oakridge.

They did some dark age/Roman stuff many moons ago when I was with them.

Sorry to resurrect this thread after so long!

I have a teacher friend, who has been asked by an aspergers pupil, where he can get 1st Century Roman kit. We are in South Wales (Newport).

Is there a group locally who could help here. Because of the aspergers, we will need to give him accurate information. I don't think he is necessarily interested in joinng a group, but any help you could give us on this would be greatly appreciated.
