Should drum sticks have the round type ends covered in leather or just plain wood like modern drum sticks? The drum I've just bought has a skin drum head and I intend to use it for 16-18 century.

A 16/17th century drum. One is natural one is synthetic. I don't think that really matters though. I just want them to look right.

I use wooden beaters on the natural skin for correctness but saying that leather covered beaters would be used too.
