WTB: Steel Crossbow Prods

Postby Joolz » Sun Feb 24, 2013 12:01 pm

As the title says, I'm looking for two steel crossbow prods (or directions to the nearest prod maker! Not in the States, if possible). Don't have to be matching, and definately not modern looking. Low poundage - 150lbs or less. Full size (not 'pistol' size). Will ultimately end up in some form of 18th/19thC bullet/stonebow (another little project to amuse myself)....

Tod might have a go at them for you? He makes a range of bows and I'm pretty sure he makes his own prods as part of the process, so I'm sure he'd make you a couple? http://www.todsstuff.co.uk/crossbows/st ... ssbows.htm

Hi Joolz

Andrew Kirkham comes to mind as well, he worked with Tod to make my latchet bow some years ago

I can highly recommend Andy Kirkham. I have had a few from him and they are excellent.

personally you may be right, but the HUGE difference in price is not equal to a HUGE difference in quality...tod has great stuff but his prices are epic..

Just depends what you want. On crossbow prods I'd be going for top specs as I want something that performs well, is made by someone with a track record, does great work and makes prods to the right shapes and thicknesses. i.e. taper properly and are not just a bent slab. Now Bodger isn't making Tod is the only person in the UK I know who makes them as per originals. happy to be proved wrong of course.
