looking for re-enactment group

I'm looking for a re-enactment group (preferably middle of the middle ages) that is in ,or west of, Cambridge. I am younger than most reenactors, but I am VERY mature for my age.
I heavily rely on public transport as I am not old enough to drive. My dad said he would accompany me if there is a good one nearby.
I guess I'm not old enough for combat, but I can entertain and inform. I hope you are looking for a jester :3

Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of reenactment. Glad to see the younger generation are still interested in our heritage enough to express their interest, by keeping it alive, through living history....well done.
With regard to groups within your area there must be some, although I personally do not know any. There are many small groups whose members live, meet and train within a certain local area; however they, like the large National societies, actually have to travel all over the country from Scotland to Cornwall to attend events, fayres and battle anniversaries.

You mention your father is willing to accompany you, well this will be essential while you are under the age of 18, as you will need a responsible adult with you at all times. I do wish you well with your endeavour and would suggest you use this forum and the internet to find a suitable group specialising in your chosen period, To begin your research you could look at Conquest www.angevin.org a national group of Anglo Norman reenactors specialising in the high mediaeval period 1066 to approximately 1315 (Hastings to Bannockburn).

Good luck and do not be shy, talk with the groups that cover the period you're interested in and go along to an event, if invited as a guest/potential member, to sample the ambiance, it is the only way to discover if a reenactors life is for you. Most groups have spare kit that you can borrow, when you first join, until you decide to stay and buy your own. Beware though, once addicted it can become like any addiction, all encompassing and very expensive.

waht sort of things would I be able to do? I'm not old enough for battle, but would like to take part doing something....

Depends exactly how old you are.

Our society leader has an 11 year old daughter who does a *lot* of acting, for example, and has been out front commanding the army!
I *think* (but need to check) you can start taking part in combat training at 16 (with dads permission), but not take part in combat at shows until 18.
The rules might be different for archery - will have to find out and get back to you.

Other than that, I can't think of anything with an age restriction.
The snag is until 18 you would need a guardian present to attend events - ie. your dad or similar

Best bet is to get your dad talking to Steve, and he can take it from there.

For Wars of Roses you can have a look on the Wars of Roses Federation member group page to look for groups close to you

From 14 you can go on to the feild as a non-com, such as cannon crew, non-com archer, banner bearer, and most important of all water carrier , Most groups would require you to have a n 18year old to be your reponsable adult.

If you are still looking for a group you are more than welcome to join The Medieval Combat Society. I have been a member for just under a year, I am also quite young (just turned 18 2 days ago) and am in a situation similar to yours with transport (although I am old enough to drive Im not confident enough to yet). My dad takes me to the local events and I get lifts with other members to further ones. They are based Kingston (London) and are quite far from me, however they do attend events all over the country. They are based in the 14th Century and we do a large range of activites, the main ones being combat, archery, dancing and banqueting! If your dad comes with you then you are allowed to take part in training for combat if under 18.

Dont worry if we are not for you, I hope that you enjoy the hobby, its a very interesting one to get into.
