The Colchester Roman Society was formed in the summer of 1987 initally representing legionaries of the 14th Legion Gemina of the 1st century AD. The aim of the society was, and continues to be, research into and the recreation of equipment, training and lifestyles of the Roman military and civilians during the 1st and 2nd Centuries AD.
In 1997 the decision was made to concentrate on Roman Auxiliary troops namely COH I FIDA VARDULLORUM MILLIARIA EQ CR
(cohors I Fida Vardullorum civium Romanorum equitata milliaria) or the first Cohort of the Vardulli, Roman citizens and part mounted.
The group consists of both military and civilian impresions and members can demonstrate a wide range of traditional skills and crafts.
