LEGIO VIII AUGUSTA MGV 69AD – 138AD

Roman Military & Civilian Living History Society

SHORT DESCRIPTION

We portray a Vexillation of Legionaries over in Britannia on detachment from the Rhine frontier, with supporting auxiliary troops. Our civilians depict local fairly Romanised British people.

We are based in North Wales, with members in NW England, Scotland, France, Switzerland & Italy as well!

Our website – http://www.roman.org.uk

LONG DESCRIPTION

We are a small, but quality, society who have been on the "English Heritage Circuit" for about 15 years or so. We generally do around 10 public shows a year in the UK, plus numerous training days at various strategic locations.

We like to try out new things, rather than sticking to the same old performances year after year, and welcome ideas from new recuits as well as existing members. We make a lot of our own kit, which keeps the quality high, and will help new recruits with loaned equipment until they are able to get their own.

You are free to choose your own role within our society performances, within reason, provided it fits into our period, so whether you want to be a Roman, or one of the resentful and oppressed Britunculi, please get in touch!

I worked with these guys at Birdoswald last year.

VERY impressive legionaries & accessible living history, bloody good displays too!

After 22 years as a Roman reenactor, our Optio has finally been promoted to Centurion by popular acclaim! Given the tendancy for everyone to want to be somebody 'important', is this a record? :D
