Medieval events in South of England

Postby Simon Fryer » Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:54 pm

Hi All

We are looking for local Medieval Events in our area, We live in South Somerset, and want to watch some shows this season, (giving us enough time to complete our kit and practice for next year). But we are struggling to find events down this way. We only seem to find, Glasonbury and Templecombe, surly there must be some more shows or events that groups put on. Funds are tight at the mo,thats why we are looking localy.
Our annual trip to Tewkesbury is still a must, but other than that we dont know of any others around, if anyone can let us know of any events close, then that would be great.

Cheers

Simon

I'm near Southampton and have a similar problem. As a trader I did both Glastonbury and Templecombe this year and last. The only other one that I know of is run by Event Plan at Broadlands (Romsey, Hants), called 'You're History', taking place the 22nd/23rd September I think.
There's also Herstmonceux, but that's a long way from Somerset....

Yeah Its about a 4.5 hour trip each way for us, way to far. Im supprised, seeing the amount of castles in and around the south that there isnt many more about, even if they are just small ones. The ones in Wales are made more expensive due to having to pay the toll on the bridge. :(

Medieval events in South of England

Postby EventPlan » Mon Jun 25, 2012 5:31 pm

Hi,

We have room for more groups and traders (period tentage only) at You're History (prevously known as Blasts from the Past) at Broadlands, Romsey, nr Southampton on 22-23 September. This is a very popular Classical Greek to modern era multi-period show, with 50+ timed displays & battles per day, lots of ongoing stuff, nice ambience, and an extremely atractive attractive location. Additional groups wishing to participate can drop me a line at admin@eventplan.co.uk. However a) this is a living history-based show with high standards so all groups need to meet the published guidelines on our web site http://www.eventplan.co.uk (nothing too strenuous though...basically you need to be authentic, safe, insured, friendly, and easy to work with) and b) due to demand I'm afraid that our modest budget for fees and expenses was fully committed some time ago, so any additional groups will need to come gratis...however we think they'd enjoy it as everybody else does as far as we are aware.

For more details of the show including the impressive line up of groups, please see our web site. The draft timetable and site plan have just been circulated for comment and so are available to any interested groups.

All the best

For next year...There's an event called 'Loxwood Joust' in West Sussex. Roughly 30-35 traders, jousting and a small battle. This year's was the first one, but next year's is already oin the cards.
Seek not to know all the answers, but to understand the questions.

Hi
Must apologise for the cancellation of our Event at Berkeley due to flooding. We are hoping to pick up the pieces and put on Berkeley Skirmish next year in July. Emphasis on "hoping"
You would be very welcome to attend.
