Berkeley Skirmish 2012 - CANCELLED

It is with very deep disappointment that we have to announce that Berkeley Skirmish 2012 is cancelled.

The Skirmish site at Berkeley Castle has been coping very well with this year's extreme and unusual weather and we have been putting all the appropriate plans and preparations in place to keep the event running despite the rain.

We have been constantly monitoring the situation, but this weekend another heavy downpour has finally overwhelmed the already saturated ground. Standing water has now started to appear in several areas of the site, and with more rain predicted in the week leading up to the event we have decided that it is now not possible for us to make the site safely accessible for public and participants.

For all those who were hoping to attend Berkeley Skirmish, we can only offer our sincerest apologies. Huge amounts of effort and hard work had gone into making this year's Berkeley Skirmish the best ever, and our team are enormously disappointed that it now cannot go ahead.
We hope that you will understand that we have done everything possible, but that in the end we have been unable to beat the weather conditions that have also lead to the cancellation of so many other events this summer.

This is really bad news. I look forward to Berkeley every year and now, because of the weather, I have to go and do DIY for my mother!

I hope the event runs next year as usual.

If this year follows the 2010 weather patten when the Jet Stream last moved southwards then we are in for hevau snow fall in December, remmber grid lock in London in December, and a normal summer next year.
