Written by the author of Food in History and like that book about much, much more than sex. While not obviously able to cover everything in 10,000 years of human history this is a hefty attempt to enlighten the reader with regard to marriage, birth control, sexuality (and its control) issues of taboo such as homosexuality, etc and it left me thinking that in an age where women and those who live in same sex relationships still face difficulty not a lot of pregress has been made.

What worries me is they ask if you are naked BEFORE they ask if you are in Church......

One penance was to appear naked in church and then be whipped by the priest. This still forms part of the training of alter servers.
