Looking for Tudor interest in the Midlands

Postby Steve922 » Sun Oct 16, 2011 1:50 am

I'm looking for locations and/or events in the Midlands (say an hour or so's drive from Nots/Derbys) with a strongish Tudor interest. Current reason is my 7-year-old grandson whose school project is currently 'Tudor Times and People.' He does enjoy visiting reenactments (e.g. the large English Heritage annual event and a few local WWII and Medieval events) so I thought it would be really nice if a Tudor event or a multi-period event with strong Tudor prescence happened to pop up during the next month or two. Any such luck?
We recently had a nice day at Stratford-upon-Avon viewing some Tudor arcitecture, the Tudor Experience, Bill the Bard's house, etc. so any further suggestions along those lines might be good too.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I would suggest to visit Hardwick Hall, home of the famous Bess of Hardwick, beautiful place, fantastic Tudor plaster work and furniture, good portraits and needlework too.
I don't know of any events planned, it tends to be a bit quiet round now, you just missed a lovely little Tudor event last week at Donington le Heath Manor, near Leicester- Hands on Tudors, which fortunately didn't mean impropriety for those in costume, but lots for the kids to get involved in.

Did you go to Mary Arden's Farm near Stratford?

Harvington Hall near Kidderminster has a household who are doing the last Elizabethan Household event of the season on weekend nearest Halloweeen. http://www.harvingtonhall.com/calendar.asp?cid=790

They are good...

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. please keep them coming if any new ones come up. We've visited Hardwick Hall and have Haddon Hall (something about those H's) pencilled in already.

Thanks again,

Steve
